    A new bill recently signed into law by NY State Governor will enable corporations to legally structure themselves as Benefit Corporations or B-Corps. B-Corps are for-profit entities that have a specific social mission.

    It feels so damn good, to serve organizations like Prison Radio.  On January 30th Mumia Abu-Jamal hugged his wife for the first time in nearly thirty years. Incredible. Hearing of this news, truly warmed our hearts and reminded us once again, why we do all this technology and design for our clients and partners. Amazing platforms like Catchafire.org enable skilled professionals to find and link up with pro-bono service opportunities.

    That opportunity was for a design project with Mission Markets, a professional firm and social enterprise providing services around impact investing.

    The Yoga Studies Institute (YSI) is a school that teaches how to achieve the ultimate goal of yoga: a life of love, wisdom, authenticity, fulfillment and purpose. It teaches yoga as a lifestyle in a modern sense. Helping to connect the ultimate or enlightened self with your every-day self.

    Sound pretty awesome? It is very awesome and deeply powerful. So when their team approached us about redesigning their website, we felt tremendous gratitude. Time to roll up our sleeves and master the art and code of joyful work! Actually, we just launched the site so.. Time to celebrate in our joyful work!

  • Drupal 7, Meet A Movement

    30 years ago, Mumia Abu-Jamal’s life turned upside down. A police officer in Philadelphia was shot and killed. Mumia was charged, then convicted and sentenced to death for the murder. Since his conviction, serious doubts have been raised over the legitimacy of the evidence.

    Mumia has been fighting hard for his innocence from behind bars. He has inspire a movement against injustice and in the process, become a cultural icon and celebrated journalist. He has published several books, and with the help of Prison Radio, broadcast thousands of commentaries weekly to the world.

    These broadcasts live on a site called Prison Radio, which, with our help, under went a significant re-design. And on this significant anniversary, we launched.

    Wine, a transformative liquid of love, celebration and ceremony. Winemaking, a craft dating back to the Neolithic Age. Ecommerce winery websites, a growing part of the CoLab portfolio.

    When we started the CoLab CoOp, it was in part, to find new ways to support use of internet technology that move us {society} towards a more sustainable business practices and economic prosperity for all, not a select few. Personally I can’t say I expected one of the outlets to support this would be in the wine industry, but with three winery sites from world-class wine clients launched this year and another in it’s final phases, here we are. Designing and programming ecommerce winery sites on the regular.

  • New Website For Good, Launched: Lotus Yoga!

    We are excited to announce the launch of Lotus Yoga’s new website. Lotus Yoga is a studio in the New Jersey metro area with locations in Newark and Montclair. We at CoLab love projects involving yoga, but this one is even more special because Lotus Yoga is more than a great yoga studio. Founder Jennifer Kohl is dedicated to service and community. For example she created a unique yoga program at a juvenile detention center in Newark, where she volunteers by teaching a weekly class to detainees. This dedication to bringing the benefits of yoga to the greater community is inspiring.
